To many people,
technology is simply a fact of life - it affects virtually every aspect
of our daily living. Thus, the increasing use of technology
in counselling is viewed as unavoidable and even desirable.
To others, technology has little place in counselling beyond the traditional
uses of computers for assessment and career counselling. The
increasing availability of inexpensive computer applications and networks
is a major force promoting the infusion of technology in our field,
yet the extent to which counsellors use these resources is largely
unknown. |
| Last
year, the student counseling team of the Chiu Lut Sau Memorial Secondary
School launched a web-site, named Chatbox, to the students which was
not only providing resources on life education, but also offering
them a sophisticated channel to communicate their counseling teachers. |
 |
At present,
students can have online quizzes on analyzing their inter-personal
relationship from the web. Besides, they can find the counseling
teachers they want to talk with through e-mail or ICQ at the ¡§Teacher¡¦s
corner¡¨. Methods on releasing pressure from studying are also
the vital part of the web. |
| As
an alternative to in-person counselling sessions, schools may now
conduct exit counselling using computer-assisted technology. The
counsellor¡¦s role in the school can be viewed as the delivery of direct
invitational services to students and the humanizing of the school
atmosphere. Therefore students can finally grow up as happy,
friendly, confident and responsible individuals by the integration
of IT into schools. |
